Desperate for a diagnosis. What do I have?
I remember the first sign of something being wrong about 3 years ago. I was awoken by an intense pain in the upper middle part of my abdomen. I had difficulty breathing and a pain I have always had trouble finding words to describe. It lasted for about a half hour. Since then I’ve had over a dozen severe "attacks". It has become so intense lately that I desperately need as much info as I can get my hands on. And please, if you’re going to help read through thoroughly if you could.
I will try my best to describe what happens. Like I said, I have trouble explaining the pain. Ill start by describing a typical attack.
I gotta mention, I do have what is considered a poor diet, which is what I consider to be the cause. But I’ve been changing that by leaps and bounds over the past 3 months.
I’ll list symptoms as they come to my memory…
The attacks occur with out a doubt after a day of poor eating, and usually after not getting enough sleep. What scares me lately is the fact that the attacks have been occuring with even my latest efforts to eat better, which are small changes but none the less effort to prevent an attack.
Typically, after a fatty dinner, 1-6 hours after the meal I feel it coming on. The attack lasts sometimes over 5 hours in the upper middle part of my abdomen directly beneath my chest. It starts slow and about 20 minutes in it develops into a full blown attack which is the most intense, persistent, and discomforting pains I’ve ever felt. I always experience this burp up thing before and during an attack. When I burp, it tastes like this very particular vomit taste. The pain is almost intolerable. I’ve driven to the ER twice but haven’t gone in. I get bloated in the area of the pain. My upper middle abdomen gets inflamed to the touch. I’ve had diarrhea on and off for months and there is always yellow liquid type stuff when I have diarrhea. Which is bile I’m assuming. When I do have hard stools, they’ve been almost always light clay colored.
Back to the attack.. I get severely discomforted as if there isn’t a right position I could be in. I get very squirmish. I pace back and forth frantically for hours and hours. Like I mentioned I feel extememly bloated and I will occasionally throw up during the course of an attack. I do also get the chills. I’m usually almost always cold as its happening. I get to the point where I think death is around the corner. I get delirious at some points. Another random thing I’ve been experiencing which may not be related is being awaken by coughing almost like I’m gasping for air. I can’t remember how long that’s been happening.
Anyway, when an attack ends, its gradual. I feel it starting to subside and then when its fully done, its a feeling of relief I can’t explain. I get warmer and clear headed as if the blood in my veins is flowing again. It really feels like I’m snapping out of a bad dream mentally. Very strange feeling.
Anyway, I’m scared and would greatly appreciate any info or advice you might have. I will visit a doctor soon, but would like to go in with several different opinions to throw at my doctor.

You have symptoms very similar to gallbladder issues.

Good luck.

There are a lot of things it could be. That it occurs after a fatty dinner sounds like gallbladder. the burping up vomit taste sounds like acid reflux and maybe the presence of a hiatal hernia. The intense pain , chills , delirium are your body’s way of telling you that something major is going on-why are you so reluctant to go to the hospital and have necessary tests? The longer you wait, the worse it will get. Since it could be something serious, I suggest you get medical advice.

You have gall stones. Let me explain. The gall bladder stores bile. Bile is a digestive juice which the gall bladder stores. The bladder sends bile to the stomach when the stomach needs the juices to help digest the food. The bile is sent through a small connecting tube to the stomach. Sometimes, these juices remain too long in the bladder (usually because of poor diet). When the bile remains too long, sometimes some of their chrystals become hardened, like stones. The pain occurs when the stone passes through the tube. Terrible pain. Causes pain, unusual stools, urine, terrible tasting regurgitation. All the symtoms that you have. In some cases, you can treat this and avoid the ‘attacks’ with a major change in diet. But even with success, this will not last. Eventually, the stones will again form and you’ll be back to square #1. If I were you, I would go to an ER. (the best time would be when you feel an attack coming on). Tell them all you said here. A simple urine sample, blood test, and possible e-ray will confirm the gall-bladder diagnosis. Treatment: Surgery. Done all the time. Routine. Nowadays, they perform ‘laser’ surgery. But the type of surgery will depend on your hospital, surgeon, and your actual condition. But get it done and over with. You cannot live with this forever. Good Luck.

I have that and I know that feeling of relief so well. It’s all most like a high. I have lyme disease. I would go to
the ILADS website and see if you have any of the other symptoms. It’s worth a look!!
I have had every test possible for that pain including a visit to the ER and gallbladder test,
