Fantasia/2000
Fantasia/2000 (1999)

IMDB rating: 7.20

Plot: In this update of Disney’s masterpiece film mixture of animation and music, new interpretations of great works of music are presented. It begins with an abstract battle of light and darkness set to the music of Beethoveen’s Fifth Symphony. Then we see the adventures of a Humpback Whale calf and his pod set to “The Pines of Rome.” Next is the humourous story of several lives in 1930’s New York City, scored with “Rhapsody in Blue.” Following is a musical telling of the fairy tale, “The Steadfast Tin Soldier” set to Dmitri Shostakovich’s Piano Concerto No. 2. Then a goofy Flamingo causes havoc in his flock with his yo-yo to the tune of the finale of “Carnival of the Animals.” This is followed by the classic sequence from the original film, “The Sorcerer’s Apprentice” starring Mickey Mouse and followed by “Pomp and Circumstance” starring Donald Duck as a harried assistant to Noah on his Ark. Finally, we see the awesome tale of the life, death and renewal of a forest in a sequence featuring the composition, “The Firebird.”

Does anyone know of any contest that wants play submissions by teens?
My friend wrote this kick ass play about this native american woman and i was wondering if anyone knew of any contest or play festivals in the ohio area

It isn’t in Ohio, but it is in Louisville, Kentucky. The Humana Festival.

It is coming up this month so your friend wouldn’t be able to submit it this year. I don’t know when the deadlines are, but this website may help you:

Why is the price such an issue with dogs?
People want a "cheap" purebred dog or they balk at shelter adoption fees of $200 or $300. Why?
Do people just not realize that a dog is going to cost waaaay more than that in veterinary fees and food and possibly grooming?

Example, a girl I work with needs to find a home for her new dog (its a puppy about 14 weeks old now) - turns out she didn’t do her homework on the breed and its just too hyper in her home. She tells me she "just wants to find a good home for the dog" so I tell her to contact a shelter, agree to foster until a home can be found, and let the shelter administrate an adoption. Her response "oh no, I have to get at least my $250 back from whoever takes the dog. I also spent almost $100 more on dog stuff that I’ll let the people take, but I have to get some of my money back".
(I was at work so had to restrain myself big-time).

Also, because I have volunteered with rescues, I find myself constantly justifying the amount of the adoption fee to darn-near total strangers.

What is wrong with people?

While I am a rescuer at heart & never take issue with adoption fees, if I wanted to buy a purebred dog — I’d expect to pay a thousand or two to get a well-bred and healthy dog. I’d think a breeder were nuts (or more likely accuese them of being a BYB) if they weren’t charging those kind of prices.

Why - when it comes to dogs - are people so focused on the price tag?

This is question is dumb, simply because they don’t have 1 or 2k to shell out at that specific moment. Long term care of an animal is spread out into monthly payments and much more affordable, you’re looking at the picture wrong.

Why do people want cars or houses cheap , the maintanence is going to cost much more over time, that line of logic you use is nonsensical.

+1

The rescue fees anger me more than anything. If they gave two tosses about the dog, they wouldn’t need to ask about the pricing!

People who balk at the initial price scare me. Someone I know wanted me to collect a puppy she’d saved up for the other day, and then wouldn’t understand why I wouldn’t do it when she said she couldn’t afford the bed etc until the following month!

It’s a massive commitment, which yes, unfortunately, means you’ll have to part with a little money, tough it up!!!

I’d like to see their faces when they buy a ‘cheap’ pup and then have to pay for all the initial jabs and boosters which haven’t been done and all the problems which may come with ones from clueless home-breeders and puppy farming.

And what about when it’s ill? There isn’t a puppy NHS ladies and gents.

P
PuppetStrings | Feb 05, 2010

The girl at your work should be talking to the breeder about returning/rehoming the dog. Should be right there in her contract.

I think you answered your own question though. People just don’t anticipate what caring for a dog will really cost. They get ‘puppy blindness’ and their brains fly right out the window. They also don’t understand how much a shelter, rescue, or reputable breeder has already put into the dog before they bring it home.

Our culture is so focused on everything being disposable that it’s little wonder so many people regard the dog as just one more purchase providing instant gratification.

mamanahe | Feb 05, 2010

Like I just answered in another question.
I do not define quality by price, it’s pretty foolish to think that just because the tag says $1000-$2000 you must be getting a good deal.

Also why do you care that she charges for the dog? It is hers & even though she was foolish in getting a dog that didn’t fit her lifestyle, doesn’t give you the right to determine how much she sells it for as long as she screens the calls & makes sure the dog is going to get a good home. I can’t stand when people GIVE away puppies/dogs for FREE, makes it easier for just anyone to take it, therefore resulting in it being dumped off, because it is worthless in the eyes of the owner.

At least this way the dog has a decent chance of finding someone who really wants it, even if she is just concerned with getting her money back.

Not everyone wants to "adopt" *&* not everyone wants an overpriced pet quality dog.

Video editing question?
I made a video that I put on YouTube. The video shows how to do a needlework stitch, Trouble is I am left-handed and I would like to ‘flip’ the video to show it as right-handed. I dont mind that I’ll lose the sound commentary, I just want to know if this is possible in Windows Movie Maker or something??

My guess is that it is possible — you’ll have to use one of the home video editing programs, such as pinnacle, Sony Vegas, or Adobe Premiere. You can download trial versions of most editing programs.

Teens: What is the most?
Has anything happened this week to you, that made you feel great? Like almost proud of yourself?

Yesterday my co-worker came up to me and told me how great I look and how I must be losing a lot of weight. It made me very proud because I have been working out to lose 20 pounds and I guess it has been paying off. I have never been heavy, but I am toning up and trying to lose the weight I put on. I am so happy that I am starting to get results for my hard work.

BQ: One of the best movies you have seen in a long time, that people might make fun of you for.

Mine is The Frog Princess. I loved the music and it was so good. It made me laugh and cry and dance. I just love old school Disney and this was so much like the old movies.
Oh and I loved All About Steve. I bawled my eyes out ha ha. No one else seems to like it but I thought it was great!

Yes! Yes! Yes! Yesterday was the best day ever.
I finally got the nerve to talk to my crush & it went exceptionally well.
He kept smiling at me & we were walking together.

Good job with the losing weight thing! I wish you luck.

BQ: Well, I liked "Bedtime Stories" & everyone said it was a dumb movie. Lol

I work at a grocery store as a check out chick. A few days ago, a three year old girl told me I was the fastest person at scanning groceries she’d ever seen. It was so cute. Then yesterday, a girl with Downes Syndrome who comes through my register a lot and chats to me told me I looked pretty today. Made my day :)

BQ: Old Dogs. You know that one with Robin Williams and John Travolta? It was really funny! But all my friends would think it was lame and daggy.

Have you read the Sermon of Bibi Zainab in Yazid's court?
When they reached the outskirts of Damascus they were made to halt. Yazid was informed of their arrival and he fixed a date for their entry into the city.

On the morning of the appointed day, the members of the family of the Holy Prophet (s) were led into Damascus. They were tied with ropes and herded together like goats. If anyone stumbled she was whipped. The city streets had been decorated and the sound of music filled the air. People came out in throngs wearing festive clothes and rejoiced when they saw the procession, preceded as always by the heads of the martyrs. Bearing themselves with dignity and self-respect, the prisoners were paraded through Damascus. Zaynab (a) even cast aside the offerings of food that some of them out of compassion offered them.

The son of an enemy of the Prophet (s) who had waged war with Imam Ali (a) was among the crowds. When he saw Imam Zayn ul-Abidin (a) he jeeringly asked him who was now victorious. In reply the Imam said: "If you wish to find out who has been victorious, do so when it is time for prayer and the Adhan and Iqamat are recited."

In this manner the captives were paraded until the afternoon when they reached the palace of Yazid. There he was seated on his throne and was much pleased when he saw the forty-four bound captives arrive. The head of Husayn was then brought to him on a golden tray. He struck the Imam’s teeth with his stick and said: "O Husayn! You have paid the price of your revolt."

When Zaynab (a) and her companions saw this show of arrogance they burst into tears and there were many present who were ashamed. But Yazid carried on gloating over his victory. He said to his subjects: "My ancestors who were killed at Badr have been avenged today. Now it is clear that the Bani Hashim had just staged a play to gain power and there was never any divine revelation."

Zaynab (a) however was not afraid. She drew herself up and boldly said for all to hear:

"Praise be to Allah, the Lord of the worlds and blessings on my grandfather, the Chief of divine prophets."

"O Yazid, Allah says, and his word is true, that: ‘Then evil was the end of those who did evil because they rejected the communications of Allah and used to mock them’ [30:10]."

"O Yazid, do you believe that you have succeeded in closing the sky and the earth for us and that we have become your captives just because we have been brought before you in a row and that you have secured control over us? Do you believe that we have been afflicted with insult and dishonour by Allah and that you have been given honour and respect by Him? You have become boastful of this apparent victory that you have secured and you have started feeling jubilant and proud over this prestige and honour. You think that you have achieved worldly good, that your affairs have become stabilised and our rule has fallen into your hands. Wait for a while. Do not be so joyful. Have you forgotten Allah’s saying: ‘The unbelievers should not carry the impression that the time allowed to them by us is good for them. Surely we give them time so that they may increase their evil deeds, and eventually they will be given insulting chastisement’ [3:178]."

"O son of freed slaves, is this your justice that you keep your own daughters and slave maids veiled while the daughters of the Prophet of Allah are being paraded from place to place exposed."

"You have dishonoured us by unveiling our faces. Your men take us from town to town where all sorts of people, whether they be residents of the hills or of riversides have been looking at us."

"The near as well as the remote ones, the poor as well as the rich, the low as well as the high - all casting their glances at us while our position is such that there is no male relative of ours to render us help or support."

"O Yazid, whatever you have done proves your revolt against Allah and your denial of His Prophet (s) and of the Book and Sunnah that the Holy Prophet (s) brought from Allah. Your deeds should not cause amazement because one whose ancestors chewed the livers of the martyrs, whose flesh grew up on virtuous people, who fought against the Chief of divine prophets, who mobilised parties for fighting against him and drew swords against him, should conspicuously excel all Arabs in unbelief, sinfulness, excesses, and enmity against Allah and His Prophet (s)."

"Remember that the evil deeds and sinful actions that you have committed are the result of unbelief and old rancour you bear because of your ancestors who were killed in Badr."

"One who cast his glance of enmity, malice and rancour upon us does not lag behind in practising enmity against us. He proves his unbelief, declares it with his tongue and jubilantly proclaims: ‘I have killed the sons of the Prophet (s) of Allah and made his progeny captive,’ and wishes that his ancestors had lived to see his achievement and to have exclaimed, ‘O Yazid, may your hands not lose their strength, you have wreaked g

You claim to love the ahl-e-bayt yet you believe their enemies deserve paradise? Have you abandoned your ability to reason in your efforts to cover the @rse of the of the sons of Abu Sufyan and his followers

Once Imam Jafar bin Muhammad al Sadiq asked a scholar whether he thought the pronoun tum in kuntum (in the verse "Ye are the best of peoples, evolved for mankind….") referred to the Muslims in general? "Yes" was his reply.

"It means you, who killed the grandson of the Holy Prophet and tortured his family in captivity, are the best people brought forth by Allah to guide and benefit the mankind"? the Imam said.

"No. It cannot be!" The scholar exclaimed. "Behold! It refers only to those who are competent to lead mankind to truth", the Imam advised him.

Oh you yazid sympathizer;
Yazid was so enraged with Zaynab’s bold defiance of his authority that he might have ordered her killed had not Abdullah ibn Umar ibn Aas intervened and begged that no notice be taken of her harsh words since she had suffered much grief and hardship and was broken-hearted.

Imam Zayn ul-Abidin [a.s.] would also have suffered death at the hands of Yazid on account of his fearless speech, had not Zaynab [a.s.] saved his life by begging Yazid to slay her also along with the boy. Yazid was moved by her love for the boy and spared his life. But death nevertheless took its toll. Sakina, daughter of Imam Husayn, died in captivity in Damascus at the age of four and was buried there.

This is really powerful stuff.

She was a strong independent woman. She rips through him with such ferocious arguments. Her style and speech is similar that of her father.

Anybody who opposes her and her mother, in a court shall die of ignominy.

A simple question….Yazeed being such a wicked and tyrant why did he allowed her to give such a long speech.
Either Yazeed was very good and meek person and all the story of Yazeed being wicked is made up
Or
The whole speech is imagination of a taqiah clad shia.

Edit@asker.. Your explanation is not satisfactory. You are giving explanation why Yazeed did not take revenge. My question why did he allowed her to insult him in very first place??? Sympathizer of Yazeed?? Well, why can’t you answer my argument without abusing??? Is this a kind of cover up. ithan Ashari shia cannot be better than Yazeed, if you call it sympathy.

but as i’m getting older i’m afraid of developing type 2 diabetes.i don’t really have self control when it comes to eating sweets, and that is what scares me.it’s funny because i’m not in the least bit overweight, i am 116 lbs. and i’m 5′3.i’m also 20 years old.i went to a clinic last month to get my blood drawn to see if everything was okay and the doctor basically acted like i was insane for thinking i was at risk for diabetes because i was so thin..which is dumb because weight loss is a sign of this…i’ve become extremely paranoid about getting the disease yet i still continue to excessively eat chocolate.but after today i’m making it a promise to start eating healthier.my results were normal i’m assuming because i didn’t get a call back yet it’s on my mind everyday…i’m afraid of contracting this disease and i think part of the reason i’m so scared is that when i was six years old i had a diabetes scare from my doctor.please let me know how to deal with this weird situation..i hope i’m not a hypochondriac=/thanks.

the symptoms for type 1 diabetes is weight loss and you do not get it from eating sweets! type 2 is usually found in obese and/or older people. type two may result from eating too much sweets (leading to you being overweight ) but you are very thin so there is no need to worry

Well, eating chocolate will only make you fat with bad teeth.
Sugar does NOT make you a diabetic.

Type 2 diabetics are generally overweight, over 40, and do not exercise much at all.

If you want to avoid diabetes, live the life of a diabetic - eat proper foods, avoid all junk food, avoid high fructose corn syrup like it was poison (which in many cases it is), exercise for 30 minutes a day, every day.

If you must eat chocolate, eat dark chocolate, not milk chocolate.

They have to fight an evil wildebeest called Kazar (William Shatner). But Kazar’s safe compared to the other danger on the island- a volcano that’s on the edge of eruption.
